Personal Trainer, Sheffield

I help active people feel strong, move well and prevent injury so that they can keep doing the pursuits that they love.

I offer 1:1 and small group coaching from the gym in The Climbing Hangar Sheffield.

The Climbing Hangar is a really welcoming venue and you don't have to be a climber (a good number of my clients aren't!).

Classes and Workshops

Saturday Strength Club

9:30-10:40am Saturday mornings

This is small group coaching designed to increase your confidence in the gym so that you can build full body strength. We'll explore a range of movements and gym equipment including big lifts like deadlifts and squats.

We'll also look at taking care of your body with self massage, targeted stretches, and specific exercises and warm-ups to keep injuries at bay.

Classes are limited to 5 people. There is lots of time and space for everyone to work at their own pace and get 1:1 advice.

£10/£11 per class depending on whether you block book or drop in.

I run these throughout the year, posting next month's dates in the last week of the month. Just pop in if you are new!

1:1 Coaching

1:1 coaching starts with a consultation. We'll talk through where you're at now and where you want to be; what you like doing and what you don't; and how you see working on your strength fitting into your life.

This is a good starting point to assess your movement and identify any issues that we need to work on in the gym. The movement assessment is gym-based, interactive, and everyone so far has found it fun and informative. Together, we can explore what we could work on and most people find the tests a good way to demonstrate the issues they've been having.

I see many people 1:1 every week, and others less frequently. Some are independent in the gym and come to me for coaching when they need some extra support or advice.

1:1 training is £47 per hour and an initial 90 minute consultation is also £47.

How to book

Send an email to CoachKathrynCooper@gmail.com or say hello at The Climbing Hangar.

I am in the wonderful situation that I am almost fully booked with lovely people! I currently have very limited availability on Friday and Saturday mornings for regular sessions. For occasional coaching I can be more flexible. If in doubt, contact me!

My Approach

I believe that being strong is for everybody. It needn't be complicated and can be done in balance with the rest of life's demands.

The gym is an ideal environment to assess and correct range of motion, muscle imbalance or movement pattern issues. It's also a safe place to learn new ways to move and create balanced healthy athletes.

I can help you:

Often, injury is a result of poor movement, which can lead to nagging pain that we just put up with ... until we can't. A physio can help at this stage, but we're often left with the poor mechanics that got us there. And thus the injury cycle persists.

This is where a coach fits in. Come and work with me before you need a physio or once you are discharged from acute injury rehab.

About Me

I have climbed and trained for over 20 years having discovered the mountaineering club at university. I spent the first decade or so of my career as a physicist, working first in academia then in research and development in the medical imaging field. In my mid 30's I pivoted to a portfolio career that prioritises movement and the outdoors primarily because I know how important it is for my own health.

I have been coaching since 2018, splitting my time with creative projects - I also exhibit nationally and internationally as an artist and photographer.

Coaching Qualifications:

I hold a current first aid qualification and all sessions are covered by public liability insurance.
